Diastema closure: Dr Nik

Diastema closure: Dr Nik

Gap means an unfilled space or interval; a break in continuity.

In dental world, we call this gap, diastema. A diastema is a space or gap between two teeth. It appears most often between the two upper front teeth.

A mismatch between the size of the jaw bones and the size of the teeth can cause extra space between teeth (teeth size are relatively smaller than the size of the jaw)

Sometimes some teeth are missing or undersized. This happens most often with the upper side tooth to the central ones. This will cause the upper central incisors to move sideways and develop a space.

Multiple gaps

In these cases of diastemas, a quick resin bonded restoration can be done to close up the space rather than spending a long time wearing braces to close the gaps.

Resin bonded restoration is a technique where we use composite resin material (tooth coloured filling material) and a bonding agent to build up the teeth and close up the gaps. It requires skills from the dentist in order to get nice and beautiful sculpted teeth with no gaps.

After resin bonded restoration

These restoration can last for few years and if part of it chipped off, it is reparable as the resin material can always be add on.

So the question is, do you want to close up the gaps that you have? If the answer is yes, do call us for an appointment or email me at nik@drfauziah.com for any inquiries.
